Why WWE Is Allegedly Afraid to “Get Heat” on John Cena
John Cena defeated R-Truth at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in a singles competition.
Despite his underhanded tactics, some fans believe that there was not much heat on Cena. After the match, the Undisputed Champion even hit his opponent with the belt, leaving him laid out before exiting the ring.
A former creative writer explained why the company may be hesitant to take that ‘extra step’.
However, the night did not end for Cena there, as he made his presence felt in the main event match, attacking World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso in his match against Logan Paul.
Cena’s efforts were thwarted by the returning Cody Rhodes, who then challenged Cena and Paul for a tag team match at Money in the Bank PLE against him and Jey.
Former Writer Explains WWE’s Decision With John Cena
During an episode of the Behind the Turnbuckle Studios podcast, a user asked about WWE’s fear of bringing heat on John Cena, suggesting a beatdown to Truth may have done the job. To this, Vince Russo explained:
I think they’re afraid to get heat on him because people are already chanting for Cena, and if they put heat on Cena, I think they’re afraid that people will chant more. You know, the old ‘One more time, one more time?’ So, I think that’s why they are backing off of that.
Some of Cena’s most aggressive showdowns have come during his Dr. of Thuganomics era, wherein he would use a steel chain to attack his opponents, leaving them bloodied on various occasions.
