Real Reason WWE Held Off On Making Cody Rhodes Wrestlepalooza Match

Cody Rhodes WWE

Cody Rhodes has been absent from WWE TV in recent weeks, but it seems a Wrestlepalooza match is still in his future.

Cody Rhodes was written off WWE television following a sickening attack at the hands of Drew McIntyre. McIntyre kicked Rhodes’ head through the announce table in an injury angle designed to give Rhodes time off from his WWE duties to film his part in the new Street Fighter film.

In his absence, Randy Orton has stepped up to defend the fallen WWE Champion, taking the fight to McIntyre. This had many people believing that WWE could have plans for McIntyre and Orton to square off at the upcoming Wrestlepalooza show on September 20th.

But it seems WWE is getting to go with its plan A.

Cody Rhodes Heading To Wrestlepalooza

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Cody Rhodes is scheduled to face McIntyre at Wrestlepalooza with the Orton feud injected in case Rhodes wasn’t done with his filming commitments in time:

Cody Rhodes is scheduled now for Wrestlepalooza against Drew McIntyre for the championship. The Orton match was gonna take place first, but they didn’t know if they would do it on the pay-per-view.

I know the Cody thing was up in the air; I presume it was because they didn’t know for a fact that he would be done filming (for Street Fighter) by the 20th.

That’s what I was told in the middle of the week – if he’s back, he’ll be on the card, and if he’s not, it’s gonna be Orton and Drew. But yeah, it’s Cody and Drew.
