Why WWE Hall Of Famer Thinks CM Punk Did The Right Thing

CM Punk

CM Punk issued an apology for past comments, and a WWE Hall of Famer thinks Punk was right to do that.

When CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, after a ten-year absence from the company, it shocked many people.

While others left WWE bitterly and eventually returned, like Bret Hart, Bruno Sammartino, and The Ultimate Warrior, among others, Punk was supposed to be the one who never came back.

It’s also a different WWE than what Punk was used to when Vince McMahon was running the show. CM Punk squashed whatever beef he had with WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and the two men appear to be on the same page for the long term.

In his time away from WWE, Punk often trashed the company because he didn’t want to leave, but he felt he had to go in January 2014 when he did. During that time away, Punk also trashed WWE for working with Saudi Arabia and said some harsh things on social media to The Miz about it. Punk has said he and The Miz are on good terms now, but Punk had more apologies to make.

Before his main event match at WWE Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, CM Punk issued a public apology to Saudi Arabia while addressing the fans. Some people considered Punk’s apology to be genuine, while others thought it was insincere because WWE is now paying Punk a substantial amount of money to work a show like Night of Champions in Riyadh.

CM Punk lost in his attempt to take the WWE Title from John Cena at Night of Champions due to Seth Rollins, but people are still talking about Punk’s comments.

Eric Bischoff Respects CM Punk

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff spoke about Punk’s comments on his 83 Weeks podcast, defending Punk against critics.

“It’s so pervasive, not only in the internet wrestling community, but just across the board. People are so starved for attention and validation, that when they find a group that validates … they put it out there in the ether because there’s just a large group of people that responds in a positive way to anything that is ideologically 180 degrees from their opposition.”

“I respect Punk. He did what he had to do. I applaud Punk for his choices, decisions, and his actions and to me he’s a pro; he did the right thing.”

CM Punk is expected to be a big part of SummerSlam on August 2 and 3 in New Jersey. He is not currently advertised for Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th, but Seth Rollins is facing LA Knight at the show, so an appearance from Punk isn’t out of the question. Tune in to find out.
