Why Wrestling Legend Thinks AEW Stable Isn’t Thriving

A prominent AEW stable may be suffering due to having too many members in the group, according to a wrestling legend.

There are many stables in the pro wrestling world, especially in WWE and AEW. Creating stables allows a group of people to work together to get the advantage over a rival. It often leads to heel beatdowns, leading to babyfaces making comebacks to set up matches.

One of the most prominent AEW stables is the Don Callis Family, led by former wrestler Don Callis, who has been in a lot of different roles in his post-wrestling career.

A listing of wrestlers in the Don Callis Family is as follows:

  • AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada
  • TBS Champion Kyle Fletcher
  • Konosuke Takeshita
  • Josh Alexander
  • Lance Archer
  • Wardlow
  • Rocky Romero
  • Trent Beretta
  • Hechicero

Wardlow was the most recent addition to the Don Callis Family after being away from AEW for nearly a year and a half. There have been others in the group as well, but injuries sometimes happen and take people out of storylines.

There is no set number of wrestlers that can be in a stable, but you must have at least three to be a group, and there have been some stables, like the NWO in WCW, with more than 20 members at a time.

In the case of the NWO, wrestling fans love to reminisce when the group was just Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, but they tend to forget that less successful WCW wrestlers like Horace Hogan, The Disciple, and Tylene Buck were in the group.

Konnan Believes There Are Too Many Wrestlers In AEW’s Don Callis Family

As a former member of the NWO, wrestling legend Konnan knows a lot about stables. While speaking on his Keeping It 100 podcast, Konnan criticized the Don Callis Family for being too big.

“I just think they have too many guys in the family. You got Wardlow, Rocky Romero, Lance Archer, Takeshita, the Australian guy [Kyle Fletcher], Josh Alexander. Hechicero, what’s he even doing there?

They almost remind me of the Dungeon of Doom, like let’s just get a whole bunch of guys that mean nothing, have no chemistry, have no real backstory together, and just throw them in there.

Or almost like when the NWO had like 80 guys in it. Just too many people in the family to keep track of and you can’t really focus on one or two guys because you have too many in the group.”

On AEW Dynamite, The Don Callis Family teamed up with The Young Bucks to win an “All-Star” 8-man tag team match. After the match, they attacked Kenny Omega, who left on a stretcher.
