Why the World Title Shouldn’t Be Defended in Goldberg’s Retirement Match

Goldberg

Goldberg is going to return to WWE one last time for a retirement match, and it will mostly be against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

WWE has already teased the match when Da Man was present at Bad Blood 2025, and The Ring General had confrontation with him.

Recently, Jey Uso dropped the title to Gunther, leading fans to speculate that Goldberg’s retirement match was approaching.

WWE should not book Goldberg in a world championship match

The idea of a retirement match is to go out in all glory, and pass the torch to the next generation. He doesn’t have much to do in terms of passing the torch, but he does deserve the last hurrah!

During a conversation with Coach, Tommy Carlucci discussed how WWE can build up to a SummerSlam match between Da Man and The Ring General. He concluded by claiming that Goldberg cannot be booked in a title match because he is retiring.

Gunther and Goldberg have some history together from when he made fun of his son and kind of father he had. So, this is all leading up this Monday Night RAW and it’ll start with him sitting in the crowd where Gunther will pick on him for weeks and weeks and weeks and it’s going to probably lead up to SummerSlam, right? Because July 12th is Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia. Oh, and it happens to be in his hometown. So, probably the match will be made on Saturday Night’s Main Event for SummerSlam. And, there’s your retirement match.. Goldberg and Gunther. It can’t be a title match, right? Because he’s retiring.

If WWE announces a title match for Goldberg, it will be announcing that Da Man will not win the retirement match. If the match is a non-title match, the predictions for the outcome can go in either direction.
