Why Tony Khan Really Shifted Major PPV

Tony Khan AEW

Tony Khan has been forced to be flexible when it comes to pay-per-view, but it seems there was a surprising reason for him to make one switch to the calendar.

WWE has not been shy in counter-programming AEW since Tony Khan’s company came into existence in 2019. Now with All Out on the horizon, WWE attempted to put its main roster PLE Wrestlepalooza head-to-head with the AEW pay-per-view. Brock Lesnar is likely to headline that event with John Cena following Lesnar’s shock return to WWE at SummerSlam. The fact that Wrestlepalooza will be WWE’s first show as part of its new partnership with ESPN, the card is sure to be stacked.

As a result, AEW has confirmed that All Out will now air at 3 PM ET, moved five hours up from its original start time of 8 PM ET. This means that All Out will no longer compete directly head-to-head with the WWE show.

But it seems Tony Khan had to make another recent change to a PPV due to a reason much closer to home.

Tony Khan Moved ROH PPV For MJF’s Wedding

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that the recent wedding of MJF and Alicia Atout caused Khan to make a change to Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor PPV:

That’s why we had that Ring of Honor show last Friday. Originally, the Ring of Honor PPV was supposed to be on Friday night (September 5th), and they quietly moved it up a week and it was because Tony Khan wanted to go to Max’s wedding. And Tony Khan is not going to miss a show. So if he’s not going to be there because they wanted him at the wedding, then there can not be a show on September 5th.
