Kevin Owens sent Cody Rhodes to the hospital after Saturday Night’s Main Event and now WWE’s plans for the violent star have been revealed.

At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cody Rhodes wore the beloved Winged Eagle WWE Championship for one night only as he retained his title against Kevin Owens. However, Owens was the only man to walk away from the ring.

Kevin Owens dropped Cody Rhodes with a package piledriver which saw The American Nightmare stretchered from the ring. WWE has revealed the extent of Cody Rhodes’ injuries as a result of the attack and it seems WWE had a good reason for the attack taking place after Saturday Night’s Main Event went off the air.

Fightful Select has now explained what WWE’s plans are for Kevin Owens after his attack and why the spot took place after Saturday Night’s Main Event went off the air.

With the holiday season upon us, WWE taped the 20th of December edition of SmackDown ahead of time which due to Saturday Night’s Main Event airing the night after, Owens and Rhodes couldn’t film anything for that show without giving away the result of their title match.

The post-show attack at Saturday Night’s Main Event therefore was done to bridge that gap as WWE plans to air the attack on SmackDown with Kevin Owens also set to appear in a backstage segment on the pre-taped show.
