Why Roman Reigns Still Thinks WWE Match With The Rock Will Happen
Roman Reigns has opened up about the possibility of facing The Rock in WWE after plans were unceremoniously scrapped for WrestleMania 40.
WrestleMania 40 went off the air with Cody Rhodes surrounded by his family and many members of the WWE roster as he celebrated winning the Undisputed WWE Championship from Roman Reigns.
As has become well known since, WWE hoped The Rock would have been in Rhodes’ spot, having finally defeated the Tribal Chief, cementing his place at the Head of the Table. In fact, it was only a huge negative reaction from fans when Rhodes stepped aside for The Rock in February that caused the Hollywood megastar to turn heel, leaving the path clear for Rhodes to take his shot at Reigns.
Roman Reigns Still Open To Match With The Rock
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Roman Reigns has given his thoughts about his long-talked-about match with The Rock taking place and began by claiming that despite the overwhelming fan support being behind Cody Rhodes taking The Rock’s place at WrestleMania, WWE is not being dictated to:
I think our fan base and the company have proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something [then it’ll happen]. We’re a company, we’re not being dictated to, and of course, we we have a vision for where we’re trying to go.
But we know who the consumers are, we know who’s paying their hard-earned money and we want to satisfy those people. But we have to do it in a regard that’s going to attract more eyes and bring more people in. Dwayne’s always going to be in that role. He’s always going to be a guy that just magnetizes and makes the broadcast even bigger. So if that’s the case and that the people want it.
But that’s what’s cool, we’ve had such a strong set of talent in our roster. Who would have thought that Cody could have had so much admiration that it could have broke up the plans of Tribal Chief vs. The People’s Champion?
That in its own right is pretty outstanding. It’s amazing. So I think that just kind of goes back to yeah, there’s a lot of meat on the bone and if Dwayne can’t come in and just boom this is how it is brother, then that’s when you know you’re cooking up with some really good ingredients. I think that’s why he is tied in the way he is.
That’s why he’s a part of the board and a part of everything the way he is. Because we’re at an unprecedented time right now. Business is great and we just want to continue to push things up. So if that’s what the people want, and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.
Roman Reigns will be joined by CM Punk in WarGames at Survivor Series as he looks to end Solo Sikoa’s claims to being Tribal Chief.
