Why Recent MJF Dynamite Promo Upset People In AEW
MJF isn’t afraid to speak his mind on AEW television.
At the AEW Worlds End PPV to end 2025, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) became a 2-time AEW World Champion by winning a Fatal 4-Way match with champion Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and “Hangman” Adam Page. Friedman won the match by hitting a Heatseeker on Joe.
The AEW World Title match at Worlds End was originally announced as a triple threat match, but MJF used his guaranteed title shot that he earned earlier in the year to join the match.
In a promo on the December 17th edition of AEW Dynamite, Friedman trashed Joe, Swerve, and Hangman on the microphone. While mocking Swerve, he mentioned rapper P. Diddy (Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs), who is in jail for multiple sex crime charges, and has obviously tarnished his legacy as a rapper and producer.
“You really remind me a lot of this famous musician. You guys have a lot in common: you both call yourselves moguls, you both rock chains, you both use way too much baby oil, and you’re both dogs**t rappers. The name’s on the tip of my tongue. Oh, that’s right; P. Diddy!”
MJF’s Diddy Promo Was An Unwelcome Surprise To People In AEW
According to Fightful Select, the Diddy part of MJF’s promo wasn’t known by other talent before it happened. They added that a number of people were unhappy about it, but didn’t name names. Wrestling Observer Live had also previously reported a similar story about MJF’s promo that night.
Next up for MJF as the AEW World Champion is a title defense against ROH World Champion Bandido on the Maximum Carnage episode of Dynamite on January 14th.
It would be a surprise to see MJF lose the AEW World Title so soon after winning the championship. Friedman’s first AEW World Title reign saw him have the longest title reign in company history at 406 days.
