Why John Cena Had To Win Over & Over Again In WWE
John Cena knows what people think of “Cena wins LOL” but now the WWE icon has explained exactly why he had to keep racking up the victories.
John Cena rose to the top of WWE in 2005 when he captured the WWE Championship for the very first time. Cena had rode a huge wave of support to win the gold but fans were quick to start turning on him and soon the famous mixed reaction became the norm for the star.
A lot of fans grew unhappy with the perceived “Super Cena” as John Cena seemed to conquer all opponents put in front of him. But maybe there was a reason for that.
John Cena Was In It For The Long Haul
Speaking to Collider, John Cena explained that to make the few defeats he suffered mean anything, he had to rack up the wins in the first place:
One of the biggest hang-ups in the middle portion of my career was that, spoiler alert, John wins. What people don’t understand is, I think now, maybe, as we begin to reflect back here on this last run of like, ‘Hey, man, I was in it for the long haul.’
The way you make those losses impactful is sometimes you’ve got to win, and sometimes you’ve got to win a lot. Any time you can pass energy on to somebody, that’s kind of the life cycle of the business. You come in an unknown and, hopefully, you get the flywheel spinning, you create all this energy on your way out, you pay it forward, you pass it off.
John Cena is looking for another major win as he’s entered the 2025 Royal Rumble in the final year of his in-ring career. Cena needs one more world title reign to be a 17-time world champion, which would be the most reigns ever according to WWE.
