Why John Cena Made WWE Champion Cody Rhodes Cry?
WWE icon John Cena was the latest guest on Cody Rhodes’ podcast, and he said something that made the WWE Champion tear up.
On December 13th, at Saturday Night’s Main Event, John Cena finished off his illustrious career by wrestling his last ever match with Gunther and losing by tapping out to Gunther’s sleeper hold.
Although fans in attendance at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C were in utter shock after the result, Cena stayed in the ring after the match to have a moment with his adoring fans to soak it all in one final time. Cody Rhodes and CM Punk joined him in the ring, and the former handed his WWE championship belt to Cena to hold up high, as did CM Punk with his World Heavyweight Championship.
The Never Seen 17 then left his trademark sneakers and armbands in the ring as a symbolic gesture and left after taking his final bow. Shortly after his exit, Cody Rhodes was seen waiting for a few more moments and emotionally staring at the gear that the WWE icon had left behind in the ring. Days later, The American Nightmare found himself becoming emotional once again upon listening to some kind words from the retired star on his podcast.
Cody Rhodes Gets Emotional With What John Cena Had To Say
As per his recent announcement, the WWE Champion had John Cena as the latest guest on his podcast called “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” Towards the end of the episode, Cena thanked Rhodes and the latter wasn’t initially ready to accept the thanks to which Cena mentioned that he needed to be better with his words of affirmation. He then went on to thank Cody again and shared his genuine feelings about how the superstar is responsible for more than just himself as he is a devout family man. (1:50:00 onwards)
“I wanna thank you because you are goin’ nose to nose and you go as hard, in some cases harder than I can imagine. Your work ethic is aspirational. You will joust that. Here is my volley.
You are responsible for more than yourself. For many of these years I was runnin’ a one man show. And it was like if you wanna ride the wake, I’m the boat. You can geta tow and some skis but we’re doin’it my way.
Cena continued praising Cody and these closing lines led the WWE champion to cry emotionally.
“You’re a family man, a dedicated father, a wonderful husband. You got people to support and that support you, and sometimes that helps, but you are juggling so much more than I ever possibly could. So thank you for overstaying. You gave me another 35 minutes. It’s not lost on me, and a lot of me wanting to milk this is just, I miss my friend and I wanted a conversation with my friend.”
