Why John Cena Got “Shoot Mad” At Ex-WWE Star
John Cena might seem in control of his emotions at all times, but a former WWE star has revealed that he once felt the wrath of Cena after a prank went wrong.
John Cena stood as his own man for most of his run as a WWE Superstar, but, perhaps surprisingly to some, Cena has held versions of the WWE Tag Team Championship on four separate occasions. But each of these title wins was shared with someone Cena was feuding with at the time.
In 2010, he teamed with David Otunga, a member of the hated Nexus, to capture the WWE Tag Team Title from Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. But things soon turned sour between the temporary partners backstage.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, David Otunga revealed that after winning the gold, John Cena tried to play a prank on him by having him look for the belts that Cena already had in his possession:
He tried to rib me by taking the titles, and then he told me, ‘Hey, make sure you grab the titles and take them to the next town.’ He wanted me to go crazy backstage, searching for it, and freak out. So I went and asked Drew for the titles, and he’s like, ‘Oh, I already gave them to Cena.’ Okay, that was the end of that.
John Cena Left Upset After Prank Failed
However, that wasn’t the end of it for John Cena, who was unhappy that Otunga didn’t look harder for the titles and that his joke had backfired:
I get to the building the next day, ‘Oh, man, what did you do? Cena is p*ssed at you!’ What? ‘Yeah, he’s mad. He’s looking for you. You gotta apologize to John Cena.’
I literally went and apologized to John. ‘Hey, John, I’m sorry, I looked for the title. I didn’t understand. You know, I thought you had them.’ He was shoot mad at me though… That’s what I always said, which is always kind of funny to me. Hey, yeah, your joke didn’t work and you’re mad at me about it. But doesn’t that kind of fall on you playing your joke a little bit?
John Cena will defend his Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series against Dominik Mysterio in the penultimate match of Cena’s career.
Cena will compete in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th. His opponent will be one of Gunther, Solo Sikoa, LA Knight, or Jey Uso.
