Why Jelly Roll Wanted WWE Hall Of Famer To Critique His Promos

Jelly Roll WWE

Jelly Roll reached out to a legendary WWE Hall of Famer for some blunt criticism of Jelly’s promo work.

There aren’t many people who can say that they had their WWE debut match in front of 50,000+ people, but the popular singer Jelly Roll can say that.

At SummerSlam, Jelly Roll teamed up with Randy Orton against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul in a very entertaining match. The key spots in the match saw Paul hit a Frog Splash off the ring post that put Jelly through the commentary table. Even though it looked like it was done, Jelly got back in there and kept fighting.

Unfortunately for Jelly, he took a Claymore Kick from McIntyre, who then received an RKO from Orton. After Paul sent Orton into the turnbuckle, Paul went up top and hit the Paul From Grace (Frog Splash) off the top rope to pin Jelly.

In the build up to the match, Jelly Roll impressed a lot of people with his promo ability and how quickly he picked up how to perform in the ring. Regarding his promos, Jelly told Cody Rhodes on the latest episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast that he wanted WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman to offer him advice on his promos.

“Every person I’ve asked to help me was just like, ‘All it took was asking.’ The first time I grabbed Paul Heyman, ‘Yo Wiseman. Lifelong fan of you. I’m fixing to shoot my first promo out here. I want you to pick it apart.’

I come in, ‘Ten out of ten, ten out of ten. You want me to be nitpicky?’ I was like, ‘Mr. Heyman, I’ve been praying to have a moment with you like this.’ He picked down my promo to the point where I learned so much for him that time, I learned my lesson, I’m not going to let him criticize me after. I’m gonna go in (before) and be like, ‘This is what I’m thinking and cooking. Talk to me about it.’”

Jelly Roll Wanted To Lose At SummerSlam

Elsewhere in his interview with Cody Rhodes, Jelly Roll made it clear that he told WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, that he wanted to lose his debut match at SummerSlam.

“I told Triple H I want to lose at SummerSlam. Just cause no celebrity’s ever took an ‘L’, they always put them over. And if you don’t put me over, I always have a reason, there’s always just something lingering there, I can pop up anytime.”

It’s also very likely that WWE fans haven’t seen the last of Jelly Roll because Triple H made it clear that Jelly will be back in WWE again.

Jelly Roll could also be working with Randy Orton again by recording an updated version of Orton’s legendary “Voices” entrance theme song.
