Why Ex-WWE Star Laughed During Firing Call

Triple H WWE looking at phone

Nobody knows how they’ll react to being fired until it happens, and for one ex-WWE star, it meant bursting out laughing.

Tegan Nox started with WWE in 2017, was released in the summer of 2021 and was brought back in December 2022. Nox overcame multiple knee injuries in her career, but she was only used sparingly prior to her second release from the company in late 2024.

A release that she says she saw coming and couldn’t help but laugh at.

Tegan Nox Could Only Laugh At WWE Release

Speaking on the Sappenin’ podcast, the star now known as Nixon Newell outside of WWE explained why she saw the funny side of her release and said she was pleased to finally receive it as her mental health was at rock bottom:

So I’m getting ready to go on my cruise, and then this guy calls and says, ‘Is this Tegan?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘How you doing?’ and I say, ‘Depends on how this phone call goes.’

Then he says, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna exercise your 90 days.’ I just started laughing. I don’t think he appreciated me laughing. He’s like, ‘What’s so funny?’ and I told him, ‘I knew this was coming.’ He goes, ‘What do you mean you knew this was coming?’

I said, ‘Big f***ing yes—I’ve been off TV for God knows how long, nothing’s happening, I’ve been pitching stuff every week and getting nowhere. It’s pretty obvious I’m getting fired.’

Then he says, ‘Oh, um, we’ll still pay you for the 90 days, but sorry about that.’ I told him, ‘Oh no, thank you so much, I appreciate that. I appreciate you firing me, I’m glad to be gone.’ He’s like, ‘What?!’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m just happy to be gone. My mental health was ruined.’ So I think I p*ssed him off by A, laughing, and B, saying I didn’t want to be there anymore.
