Why Drew McIntyre Wants To End John Cena’s WWE Career
Drew McIntyre has explained why he is the man who should end John Cena’s WWE career.
There are a lot of big names in the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match including former WWE Champions like Roman Reigns, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, and CM Punk. Two more of the big names are also former WWE Champions – Drew McIntyre and John Cena, who is looking to win his third Royal Rumble match to set up a potential record-breaking 17th WWE World Title win.
While McIntyre might not be considered a favorite to win the Men’s Rumble match like Cena, Punk, or Reigns, WWE fans know that the Scottish Warrior is very capable of beating anybody at any time. For Cena, it will be his last Royal Rumble since he’ll be retiring as an in-ring performer later in the year, most likely in December.
In an interview with the No Holds Barred podcast with Jan Murphy and Rob Wong that was shared by Murphy with the Toronto Sun, Drew McIntyre was asked if he would like to have a feud with Cena this year.
“It’s not would, either. I think it’s should, 100%. When CM Punk first came back, peoples’ instant reactions were ‘I’d like to see this or this and my name wasn’t mentioned. I was like ‘Hey, there are plenty of stories here,’ with my personal feelings and the environment we live in and if I get the chance, I’m going to make this frigging count.”
Drew McIntyre Is Not Letting John Cena Retire Without Having A Match
When Drew McIntyre started in WWE in the late 2000s, he was a young guy in his 20s who wasn’t in the main event picture to face John Cena. A lot has changed since then since Drew McIntyre is one of the biggest stars in WWE in the prime of his career while Cena is a living legend who some people refer to as the Greatest Of All Time in WWE history.
Even though he’s had a long history in WWE, McIntyre hasn’t had a singles match. The two men were part of a big four-way match on Raw on January 14, 2019, with Finn Balor, Baron Corbin, Cena, and McIntyre. Balor won that match while McIntyre got his hands on Cena, but it wasn’t a singles match.
As he spoke about his history with Cena, McIntyre noted that he has a lot of material he can bring up when it comes to Cena. McIntyre went on to say he wants to be the one to end Cena’s career.
“With John, I’ve got 10 times the stories. There are very few people who were around him, especially those growing up around him, left. Cody and I are the only two who are under 40 from that previous generation that grew up around John and have a lot of things to say, a lot of them are chummy, chummy. I may have some more interesting things to say.
I do have some more interesting things to say and when, not if, I get the opportunity, on the microphone, much like Punk.
“I know how good John is, I want to be able to get that chance to go back and forth and say our piece and make people think, just like Punk and I, ‘Oh my god, there’s something really special here.’ I’m not letting him retire and disappear into the night without getting that match because we have never, ever had a one-on-one match.
“We’re going to have that one-on-one match and I’m going to be the one who sends him packing, not some new guy.”
