Why Did The Bloodline Invade NXT?

The Bloodline WWE NXT

The Bloodline’s arrival on NXT was a late call.

As is so often the case in wrestling, the September 10th episode of NXT was hit by late changes.

On the show, Nathan Frazer and Axiom defend their NXT Tag Team Championship against The Street Profits. The Profits were late replacements for the title match after one TNA team was pulled from the bout.

However, the match ended in chaos just as Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford appeared on the brink of victory. As the Profits got the upper hand, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu appeared, demolishing both teams to stand tall.

NXT Was Subject To Late Changes

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the invasion from The Bloodline was used as a way to prevent the Street Profits from losing the match. The report added that Miguel was taken out of the match due to “unforeseen minor surgery.”

Interestingly, there had been talk of Tonga, Loa, and Fatu doing a run-in before the match was changed, but no decision was taken until Miguel was withdrawn.

That match ended up not having a finish as Tonga, Loa and Fatu laid out both teams. They didn’t want the Street Profits losing and weren’t going to change the titles, so that meant a non-finish.

The decision to have the three be involved in the finish was made when the decision was made to put the Street Profits in the match.

There had been talk of having the three do a run-in on NXT even before Miguel & Wentz pulled out, but it wasn’t finalized until they needed a way to get out of the finish there.

It’s a big week for The Bloodline with Solo Sikoa due to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title in a Cage Match on SmackDown. The show is also set to feature the return of Roman Reigns.
