Why Darby Allin Feels He Doesn’t Need AEW World Title

Darby Allin isn’t obsessed with becoming AEW World Champion.

As an AEW Original, Darby Allin has become one of the most beloved wrestlers in the company. The daredevil has earned the respect of his fans because of his willingness to put his body on the line and risk it all to entertain them.

The last time Allin wrestled in AEW was in December 2024, as he took time off to climb Mount Everest, which Allin successfully accomplished in May. He even planted an AEW flag on the mountain.

Jon Moxley has been the AEW World Champion for about nine months, and many fans have been hoping that Allin would come back to win the AEW World Title from Mox. However, Allin still hasn’t wrestled in 2025 and isn’t currently advertised for the All In Texas PPV on July 12th. Of course, Allin could still appear in a match, or simply by being on the show.

During an appearance talking to Marc Maron on WTF, Allin spoke about how he felt after climbing Mount Everest.

“I’m surprisingly feeling great. I thought coming back I was going to be all mangled and shit. Outside of wrestling and skateboarding, I do all these other crazy things. Pretty much, as soon as I got back, I was on a plane to the Bahamas to film Shark Week. It was a whole thing, but my body feels great.

I feel mentally great. I learned so much inside of myself on that mountain. A lot of people say it’s not about summiting Mount Everest, it’s about conquering yourself and your inside and pulling stuff out.

It’s a beautiful journey and pulling stuff out of you. When I got to the top of the mountain, I was crying. It was such an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. It’s pulling something out of yourself.”

As he continued, Allin spoke about proving to himself that he could do anything.

“It’s proving to yourself that you’re capable of anything. I know that sounds generic, but honestly, in the pro wrestling world, the guy who runs the show controls how far you’re going to make it or how well you’re going to make it. Someone is in control of your destiny.

It’s not like boxing or MMA where, ‘I’m going to prove I’m the f**king best by knocking you out.’ It doesn’t work like that in wrestling. It is so much politicking and random s**t that goes into it. I wanted to prove to myself that I’m f**king capable of it. You can’t politic your way up that mountain. There is no helicopter that goes up that high where you can jump out and take a photo on the summit, ‘I climbed Everest,’ and lie to people. You have to track and crawl your way up that s**t.”

Darby Allin Doesn’t “Give A S**t” About Being AEW World Champion

In his AEW career so far, Darby Allin is a former two-time TNT Champion and a former AEW Tag Team Champion with Sting. As for the AEW World Title, Allin is content whether he wins the title, or not.

“I told Tony (Khan) before I went to Everest, ‘I already feel like I’m the champion of the world. I don’t need the championship belt to feel validated because I’m already winning in life. I feel so free and happy. I’m grateful for everything.’”

When Maron suggested that the AEW World Title would be nice to have, Allin dismissed that idea.

“It depends. I don’t know. I really don’t give a s**t. Some people are so concerned with winning this thing. I just want to have good storylines. I’m not trying to be like, ‘I need to be the top guy.’ I want to have good s**t.”
