Why Cody Rhodes Needs To Become “Super Cena”

Cody Rhodes is ready to face John Cena.

As he prepares for yet another WrestleMania, John Cena is powered by a desperate need to make history. If Cena can overcome Cody Rhodes and become WWE Champion he’ll finally surpass Ric Flair and set a new record for the most World Championship reigns in history.

Further powering Cena is the knowledge that the clock is ticking. The veteran has already announced that 2025 will be his last in the ring, meaning he can’t afford mistakes or missteps as he tries to go out on top.

But standing in his way is the American Nightmare, and Rhodes is well aware of the challenge he’s facing. But the WWE Champion knows that if he is to beat Cena at the end of his career, he needs to take a lesson from Cena’s peak.

Cody Rhodes Knows What He Has To Do

During an appearance on Mostly Sports with Mark Titus and Brandon Walker, Rhodes looked ahead to his match with Cena, and the unique challenge he represents. The WWE Champion said he’s locked in and determined to walk away with the win, even though doing so would be “bittersweet.”

“This one in particular, it’s bittersweet. I’m very much locked into — I know what the rigors of the week are going to be like. I know what the challenges of the Road to WrestleMania are going to be like in these asks that are going to be coming in at the last minute. I’m aware of the extra stresses that come with it, and they’re not stresses at all because you’re aware of them.

I’m happy about my family being there. I’m happy it’s Vegas and wrestling fans [get to] experience Vegas, but it’s bittersweet because John Cena was legitimately, at one point, the dude I drove around for two years and learned everything I possibly could from, and I did it my way.

I did it very differently than John might have thought that I would do it, but it’s bittersweet because I have to do what John did during that ‘Super Cena’ run, which is just win.

As much as John Cena has made a lot of enemies as of recent, and you mentioned kicking me low, whatever it may be, there’s still an excitement over the fact that he could break Ric Flair is record, that he could get seventeen [WWE Titles], and you’re looking at the guy who stops him from doing that.

So that’s the bittersweet aspect of this. But again, I’m locked in. ‘Mania has been my thing for three years, and four main events, I am incredibly lucky and incredibly blessed. If it ended tomorrow, if the story was truly finished, I’ve had an incredibly lucky, lucky, lucky career, and I’m a product of everyone who’s around me.”

Back in January, John Cena defended his “Super Cena” run at the top of WWE. He explained that he needed to win and dominate as much as he did in order to make his rare defeats mean something and have a positive impact on his opponents.
