Why CM Punk Illness Or Tragedy Wouldn’t Surprise Ex-WWE Star

CM Punk crying

CM Punk might not have been at his usual high standard at SummerSlam, and one ex-WWE star wouldn’t be surprised to find out the star was ill or suffered a tragedy.

CM Punk defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, but for some fans, the match left a lot to be desired. Gunther dominated proceedings throughout, with Punk looking lacklustre and only being booked to win the title after The Ring General was busted open after a fall on the announce desk.

CM Punk’s joy was short-lived as Seth Rollins shocked the world as he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to defeat Punk for the title.

CM Punk Booked To Look Very Weak

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, former WWE Intercontinental Champion Lance Storm explained why he found Punk’s match with Gunther so odd that he wouldn’t be surprised if Punk had been ill or had suffered a family tragedy going into it:

I watched the Punk match out of curiosity, with so many varying opinions of it. I would not be surprised if I found out he was ill or had a tragedy in his family and had Gunther carry him through it. It was not the standard CM Punk performance, and I thought they booked him to look very weak, which was odd.

They even let the desk fluke be the thing that broke [Gunther’s] orbital bone rather than the GTS. Why not let Punk’s finisher be the thing to break the guy’s face when he knees him in the face. Why put it over that he got lucky with a trip on the desk?
