Why Chris Jericho Thinks This Ex-WWE Star Is Like Bret Hart
Chris Jericho made an interesting revelation in reference to The Hitman.
Jericho worked with WWE till 2018, and signed a contract with AEW in 2019. His in-ring debut was at AEW’s inaugural PPV, Double or Nothing, on May 25, 2019. Currently, Jericho is a part of AEW’s active roster.
In 2014, AEW joined hands with ROH for several events under the leadership of Tony Khan.
Jericho went up against former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona in December 2024 for the ROH Championship at the Final Battle event.
Chris Jericho compared Matt Cardona to Bret Hart
The AEW pro-wrestler expressed that Cardona had done a great job re-inventing himself, and reminded him of Bret Hart when he made an appearance on Busted Open Radio.
Matt Cardona — he’s really done a good job of reinventing himself, of recreating himself. And dare I say, he reminds me a lot of Bret Hart. Everything he does is very solid, it looks great, he’s very meat and potatoes in the best possible way. Matt’s not the type of guy that’s going to do a moonsault off the balcony — and neither am I. So we’ll leave that to the guys that do that.
The remark from the pro-wrestling legend helped highlight Cardona’s in-ring abilities and technical prowess.
Cardona was extremely appreciative of the comparison and explained that he understands why Chris Jericho possibly complimented him with that comparison.
Jericho’s current AEW contract is set to expire in January 2026. While there are speculations of a WWE return, he hasn’t confirmed anything regarding his post-AEW career or plans.
