Why Chris Jericho Title Match Won’t Headline ROH Show

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho might be Ring of Honor World Champion but he won’t be headlining Final Battle for one very good reason.

Chris Jericho was shocked by his next ROH World Title challenger as Matt Cardona emerged on AEW television to demand a title shot against the self-proclaimed King of New York. The match was made for Final Battle on December 20 in Hammerstein Ballroom but Jericho wasn’t waiting until then to get his hands on the King of the Indies.

Chris Jericho shocked fans at GCW when he emerged to attack Cardona during his match with Effy. That allowed Effy to pick up the victory before Jericho dropped him as well with a Judas Effect. Jericho then revealed an AEW t-shirt that was met with a shower of boos from the GCW fans. All of this has come against a backdrop of AEW pulling Ricky Starks off GCW shows due to controversial comments made by Effy about AEW boss Tony Khan.

Athena Headlining Over Chris Jericho In ROH

However, when Jericho puts his title on the line against Cardona, it won’t be the main event of the show as that accolade will go to two women who have been telling their story for years now.

Speaking to Denise Salcedo, ROH Women’s World Champion Athena confirmed her title defence against her long-time minion Billie Starkz. At the ROH Final Battle media call Tony Khan also noted that the show had a “double main event.”
