Why Big Boom AJ Walked Away From Wrestling Before AEW Success
Big Boom AJ has revealed why he turned his back on the wrestling business decades before his epic comeback in AEW at Full Gear.
Those that skip AEW’s Zero Hour pre-shows missed one of the hottest matches at Full Gear as the New Jersey crowd went wild for Big Boom AJ, Big Justice, and The Rizzler who was on time-keeping duties as AJ faced QT Marshall.
A hugely entertaining and fun match followed as AJ managed to pick up the win over Marshall with his PowerBoom after Big Justice nailed Marshall with a spear. It has since emerged that Big Boom AJ was injured in the run-up to that match and he has vowed that he will be back in AEW at some point in the future.
Why Did Big Boom AJ Walk Away From Wrestling?
But after saying goodbye to the wrestling business years before his turn in AEW, Big Boom AJ has revealed to the effervescent RJ City on Hey! (EW) why he originally walked away in the early 2000s:
Well, because if we had all we had right now, the internet, where you could really reach everyone, I would have stayed in wrestling.
At the time, I went as far as wrestling as I really wanted to go, because without being on the road so many days a year… I have so much respect for professional wrestlers. Being on the road over 200 days a year, at the time, television was really only the opportunity. But now that we have all this, we’re able to bring the boom!
