Why Becky Lynch Didn’t Return To WWE Earlier

Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch has lifted the lid on her delayed return to the squared circle.

‘The Man’ made a triumphant return to WWE after a near 11-month absence during Night Two of WrestleMania 41 at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on 20th April. Lynch was revealed as the surprise partner for Lara Valkyria on ‘The Grandest Stage Of Them All’, with the pair successfully defeating Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez to lift the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

The reign would last just one day, with Rodriguez and Morgan regaining the titles the following night on Raw, with Lynch turning heel by viciously assaulting her partner following the defeat. Just seven days later it would be revealed that the Irish Superstar was the mastermind behind the attack on Bayley, Valkyria’s original partner for WrestleMania.

Lynch discussed her impactful return during a recent interview with Variety’s Lauren Coates, revealing that a skin condition ultimately led to a later comeback than originally planned:

“I took what I thought was going to be three months off during the summer, when my contract came up. I was like, ‘Okay, seems like a good time to take a little break, get some stuff done.’

Then other things came up – I was filming ‘Star Trek,’ and then ‘Happy Gilmore.’ There was talk [of a return] around Rumble time, but then at the last minute, I got a skin condition.

The next big event was WrestleMania, so it seemed to make sense, especially if I could take Bayley out of the mix and ruin her dreams. It felt doubly brilliant.”

Becky Lynch Believes Men and Women Of WWE Are Held To A Different Standard

Becky Lynch has hit back at suggestions that she should move aside to allow younger talent the opportunity to shine.

During an appearance on WWE’s Raw Recap show, 38 year-old Lynch rejected calls for experienced female talent to accept a reduced role on television whilst pointing out that the recent WWE Premium Live Events have been headlined by ageing male Superstars including the likes of John Cena and CM Punk.
