Why WWE Booked Becky Lynch To Dethrone Lyra Valkyria
Becky Lynch was crowned the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion at Money in the Bank PLE.
The Irish Lass Kicker dethroned compatriot Lyra Valkyria in a personal rivalry that saw both parties trade personal insults in the last few weeks.
While Lyra has grown in popularity among wrestling fans, her loss may not have come as a surprise.
During their appearance on the Coach and Bro Show, Jonathan Coachman and former WWE creative writer Vince Russo discussed Valkyria’s loss and the reason behind Lynch’s push on the roster.
She’s (Valkyria) not there yet to carry what is a big title for the WWE, the Intercontinental Championship. I think that, I’m partly kidding, I’m partly not, I think they put it on Becky because Lyra doesn’t feel believable as a character, take her in-ring work out of it, said Coachman. [From 43:31]
Russo agreed with the Coach’s diagnosis of the title change.
I agree with you a hundred percent, Coach, and this is what we’ve been talking about, too. You can’t blame her (Valkyria) if they put her in that spot. If you’re putting someone in that spot and if they’re not ready, you can’t blame her.
Becky Lynch Faces An Old Nemesis
On the recent WWE Raw episode, Becky Lynch smelled blood and decided to humiliate Lyra Valkyria further.
However, she was attacked by her old nemesis, Bayley, whom she had taken out backstage during WrestleMania 41, sidelining her from her match for the women’s tag team championship.
The Role Model and The Man’s rivalry is a storied one, dating back to their NXT days.
It is now clear that Lynch and Bayley will be involved in a storyline, at least in the near future. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see where that leaves Lyra Valkyria, who’s had a dream few months in WWE.
