Why AEW Legend Thinks Goldberg Isn’t Done Wrestling

A legendary figure thinks that Bill Goldberg may not be done wrestling after all.

The main event of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta saw Gunther beat WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg to retain the World Heavyweight Title. It was a competitive match that Goldberg nearly won, but there was no referee to count when he hit the dreaded Jackhammer. Gunther recovered and applied a Sleeper to win.

After the match, Goldberg only got to speak on television for about 30 seconds when NBC ended the show right at the 10 p.m. hour. The full speech was posted on WWE’s YouTube channel.

In the days that followed, Goldberg complained heavily about how WWE produced the match, making it clear that he would say more in two weeks, which could coincide with the expiration of his WWE deal.

While speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, WWE Hall of Famer and AEW announcer Jim Ross discussed the match, noting that he has known the 58-year-old Goldberg since he was in high school. This means Ross has known the former WCW & WWE World Champion for over 40 years.

“Sounds like he’s done, and if he was, that’s not a bad thing. He’s not a spring chicken. I thought they came out of that match pretty well unscathed, and they did a nice job of maintaining Goldberg’s legacy, because that’s my take on it, as a fan and someone has known Bill since his high school days. I wasn’t disappointed in it at all.

I thought they did a fine job, and any negative feedback or publicity is what it is… I like Bill. I’m a big Bill Goldberg fan as a man and as a talent, but I can understand his frustration, but it certainly doesn’t mark his legacy in a negative way.”

Jim Ross Believes That Goldberg Could Be “Back In The Hunt” As Pro Wrestler

Even though Ross said on his podcast that it sounds like Goldberg is done wrestling, he would discuss it further and admit that he wants to see the WWE Hall of Famer in the ring again.

“I think somewhere down the road… I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Goldberg. I think if it was booked correctly and not overexposed. You dress that match up with the right opponent. Billy could be certainly back in the hunt or something. He’s proven that he draws. He’s a very unique talent, and so I hope that he does more. I really do.

He’s developed into more of a wrestling fan and a student of the game, and I think that’s important, that he’s still learning. He delivered. He did what he’s supposed to do. The bottom line was, you know, protect Goldberg and get Gunther over. And they accomplished both those things.”

There are already some people predicting that Goldberg may want to continue wrestling in another company like AEW, but it’s not known if AEW wants him or if he wants to have more matches.
