Who WWE Really Had Running Worlds Collide

Shawn Michaels Triple H WWE AAA Worlds Collide

WWE had one of its top names running Worlds Collide behind the scenes, but it’s not who many fans might think.

WWE caused a sensation when it revealed it had purchased Mexican promotion AAA at WrestleMania 41. The first time fans got to see what this new arrangement meant was when AAA and WWE produced Worlds Collide on June 7th in Los Angeles.

Several WWE stars were on the show as Chad Gable unsuccessfully challenged El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship in the main event. The NXT North American Title was defended on the show, but Ethan Page overcame Je’Von Evans, Laredo Kid, and Rey Fenix to escape with his gold.

Legado del Fantasma picked up a win over Psycho Clown, Pagano, and El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. while Stephanie Vaquer and Lola Vice combined to defeat Dalys and Chik Tormenta. The opening match of the night introduced a wider audience to the wackiness of Mr. Iguana as he teamed with Aero Star and Octagon Jr. to defeat Lince Dorado, Cruz Del Toro and Dragon Lee. One WWE star had been pulled from that match after getting knocked out in the ring.

WWE Name Takes Charge Of AAA Worlds Collide

Corey Graves joined Konnan on commentary for the show, and Triple H and Shawn Michaels were both on hand during the national anthems and introduction to the show. But despite their presence, they weren’t in charge of Worlds Collide.

PWInsider reported that former TNA announcer turned Triple H’s right-hand man Jeremy Borash was in charge of all aspects of the Worlds Collide broadcast. Borash was named as one of the names who would likely head up AAA’s creative after WWE acquired the promotion.
