Who Was Really Behind Chris Jericho’s Shock GCW Attack?

Chris Jericho

Tony Khan has lifted the lid on how Chris Jericho ended up on a GCW show despite the obvious issues between the promotion and AEW in recent weeks.

Chris Jericho continued his habit of turning up anywhere, anytime as he made his impact felt during a bout between his upcoming opponent Matt Cardona and independent star Effy on a recent GCW show. A disguised Chris Jericho savagely attacked Cardona in the ring with a baseball bat allowing Effy to score the victory.

The joy was short-lived for Effy, however as Jericho dropped him with the Judas Effect and revealed an AEW t-shirt which led to him being showered with boos by the GCW fans.

All of this chaos came against a backdrop of Ricky Starks being pulled off GCW shows by AEW following controversial comments made about Tony Khan.

Tony Khan Explains Chris Jericho’s GCW Appearance

Speaking at the ROH Final Battle media call, Tony Khan explained how, despite the issues, AEW and GCW have been able to work together and have Chris Jericho appear on the promotion’s show:

Matt helped put that together. Matt asked me about it, and obviously, I was happy to send Chris to promote the match that is happening on ROH as part of the double main event. It’s something we spent weeks building up on ROH and AEW TV, which is a nice thing.

There is a lot of matches and potential things that could happen with Matt being the challenger and potentially being the ROH World Champion going forward. That’s something to keep an eye on. With Matt appearing there, and this being a title match, it made sense to do something to promote.

It’s very much along the lines of things we’ve done with other matches along the ways over the years.

Matt Cardona will challenge Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle on December 20th.
