Who Does WWE Consider A Breakaway Star?
A current champion in WWE is considered a “breakaway star” by one of the top decision-makers in the company.
The two-night WrestleMania 41 event in Las Vegas featured some great matches, but the one that stood out the most to many fans was the triple threat match that saw Iyo Sky retain the Women’s World Title over Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley.
Going into that match, most people likely would have picked Belair or Ripley to win, yet Sky found a way to win what was an incredible match that has been called one of the best WWE women’s matches of all time.
Sky has become a favorite wrestler of WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque since she walked into WrestleMania 40 as the WWE Women’s Champion and this year as the Women’s World Champion. Considering how talented she is in the ring, it’s easy to see why.
WWE Management Strongly Believes In Iyo Sky
Since WrestleMania, Sky has been featured on television regularly. She has had great matches on Raw against NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer and Roxanne Perez. In addition, Sky returned to WWE NXT on April 29th to team up with Jordynne Grace and beat the team of Perez and Giulia.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Iyo Sky is considered a breakaway star in the company.
One person high up in decision making noted to us that Sky has been considered breakaway star this year, combining the fire and voice inflections that made Asuka a strong promo without speaking English and “her ridiculously great workrate, and everyone loves working with her, so no one has a problem making her shine, letting her shine, and designing a match for her to shine.
Iyo Sky isn’t advertised for a match at WWE Backlash on May 10th in St. Louis. Still, WWE fans should continue to expect her to be featured regularly on television and in future Premium Live Events.
