Which WWE Hall Of Famer Does The Undertaker Rate AJ Styles To Be Just As Good As?
In a recent episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker showered high praise on former WWE Champion AJ Styles, placing him in the same league as his fellow Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels in terms of in-ring prowess.
Reflecting on his final match at WrestleMania 36, which took the form of a “Boneyard match” against AJ Styles, The Undertaker expressed his admiration for the phenomenal athlete, whom he had never faced in the ring before.
AJ was just somebody I wanted to work with, I put him up there with Shawn Michaels, he’s that great. I would have liked to have seen him work with Shawn and work with Bret Hart, holy crap would those have been great matches.
The Undertaker’s admiration for AJ Styles was further evident as he lauded their unique Boneyard match, which was filmed at a graveyard in a cinematic-style format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed pride in the storytelling aspect of the match and commended Styles for his contribution to the evolution of The Undertaker’s character, stating,
I always felt we were very fortunate to get out of the WWE Performance Center and go and do that. I was really proud of it and thought we told a really good story which is always the most important thing to me. Him talking mad trash, bringing out this different evolution of the Undertaker and merging all the three characters together into one. Originally that match would have been in the ring, but I think everything worked out the way it was supposed to for that story.
While initially not planned, the cinematic nature of the Boneyard match provided a refreshing take, especially considering The Undertaker’s previous concerns about some of his in-ring performances in the later stages of his career. The match served as a testament to the storytelling and creativity in wrestling, offering a unique and memorable experience for both the performers and the audience.
