Why did Bobby Lashley leave WWE or AEW?

Back in August 2024, Bobby Lashley allowed his WWE contract to expire, after MVP had announced he would be doing the same.

Over the following months, the pair headed to AEW and reunited with Shelton Benjamin under the guise of The Hurt Syndicate. The faction is an updated version of The Business in WWE, where the trio enjoyed a tremendous run of success alongside Cedric Alexander.

However, the group was unceremoniously split by Vince McMahon without reason or explanation, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of all those involved.

MVP Urged Bobby Lashley To Leave WWE

While speaking to The Chicago Sun-Times, MVP reflected on his wrestling longevity and the latest chapter of his story in AEW. When looking back on his and Lashley’s departure from WWE, he revealed that he told his friend not to re-sign with the company and explore a deal with AEW instead.

“I was sitting next to Bobby in catering and said, ‘We got to get out of here,’” MVP said. “[He told Lashley], ‘Don’t re-sign. Let’s get Shelton and go across the street [to AEW]. Our story is not finished.”

MVP added that while Tony Khan has given the group the chance to end The Hurt Syndicate on their terms, they’re also keenly aware that their mission is now to create new stars and help the next generation.

“Tony has given us that gift of allowing us to finish telling The Hurt Syndicate Story our way. We made clear to Tony that we are OGs and we understand it’s time to make new stars, and that’s our goal. We’re not here for a long time, and we know how to do business, make money, and how to make stars.”

During an interview back in May, MVP revealed that he has “zero respect” for Triple H, while he’s repeatedly said that he and Lashley had no future with WWE under The Game’s management.

Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin were most recently in action at All In, where they successfully defeated JetSpeed and The Patriarchy to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
