When WWE Really Decided To Cut Jey Uso’s Title Reign Short

Jey Uso WWE

Jey Uso wasn’t World Heavyweight Champion for very long, but when did the powers that be in WWE really decide just how short his reign would be?

Jey Uso shocked the world when he won the Royal Rumble to book a world title match at WrestleMania 41. Uso quickly set his sights on the World Heavyweight Championship held by Gunther, and a bigger shock was on its way.

At WrestleMania, Jey Uso made Gunther tap out as he claimed the gold for the first time in his career. However, Uso’s run at the top ended just 51 days after it started as Gunther reclaimed the World Heavyweight Championship when he put Uso to sleep.

Jey Uso’s WWE Title Reign Always Going To Be Short

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave some insight into when WWE made the decision that Uso’s title reign would be a short one, and it seems it happened before he even won the championship:

When the decision was made to put the title on Uso, it had already been decided it would be short reign and that he would lose it back to Gunther.

It was noted that the title would be put back on Gunther so he could have his title match with WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
