When Andre The Giant And Blackjack Mulligan Got Into A Wild Brawl Over Card Games

WWE Hall of Famers Andre the Giant and Blackjack Mulligan once turned a simple game of cribbage into a fistfight after drinking tequila, according to former wrestler Manny Fernandez.

In a 2017 interview with Title Match Wrestling, Fernandez recounted witnessing the legendary brawl firsthand, explaining how a friendly card game spiralled out of control.

“Andre decided he wanted me to drink two-fingers tequila, ‘Well, here is this Mexican kid. Drink tequila, drink tequila!’ I brought out a shot glass, but Andre brought out a glass, making sure I drank it all. About three glasses later, I was on my butt on the floor while [Andre] and Blackjack Mulligan were playing cribbage!”

Cribbage was a popular locker room pastime for wrestlers, often played for small amounts of money. However, on this particular night, tensions ran high.

“Whatever happened in cribbage, Blackjack Mulligan reached across my table and punched Andre the Giant in the face! Bam! I was on the ground, going, ‘Oh no!’ and that big giant just laughed! Andre just said, ‘Oh, okay, boss. We fight now.’”

The situation quickly escalated into chaos.

“Mulligan shot off like you see in the movies with shotguns. Geez, these guys went at it and tore up my apartment. Tore it up!”

According to Fernandez, the brawl had no clear winner, but it left his apartment in ruins.

Did WWE Once Consider Andre The Giant To Win The 1991 Royal Rumble?

According to Bruce Prichard, the WWE once considered having Andre the Giant win the 1991 Royal Rumble. Prichard was asked about why Andre was advertised to be in the 91 Rumble and subsequently pulled from the match shortly after the announcement was made, he said that Andre’s declining health and mobility was the reason he was pulled from the match and up until that point the idea had been thrown around for the legendary giant to possibly win the match.
