What WWE Told Talent About Attending Vince McMahon’s Party
How did WWE really feel about many of its current stars attending the 80th birthday party of Vince McMahon?
For four decades, Vince McMahon led WWE to new heights as many of the stars that he promoted made millions while McMahon himself made a billion.
McMahon’s fall from power was swift after he and the company were sued by Janel Grant, who has accused McMahon of serious sexual abuse and sex trafficking. After a sponsor threatened to pull their support for the company, Vince McMahon was told to resign as Executive Chairman of TKO, ending his official association with WWE.
WWE has gone to great lengths to distance itself from McMahon, which might be why so many fans were surprised to see current stars of the company, such as Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and John Cena, attend his 80th birthday party.
Word of the event only leaked when WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler posted a photo taken by a professional photographer at the party on social media. Lawler has since deleted the photo.
WWE Left Vince McMahon Decision Up To Talent
Fightful Select gave more insight into the party, with nobody willing to go on the record on who was in attendance, which is perhaps no surprise given McMahon’s current standing. It was noted, however, that Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, or Nick Khan were at the party, and there was no official WWE involvement in it.
Some talent had asked WWE higher-ups if they could or should attend the party, but the company’s line was that it was the talent’s business whether they did or didn’t.
