What Went Wrong For Jon Moxley & Darby Allin At AEW WrestleDream

Jon Moxley Darby Allin AEW WrestleDream

Jon Moxley and Darby Allin went to war at WrestleDream, but the end of their match had many AEW fans asking questions.

Darby Allin has been at war with Jon Moxley and the Death Riders ever since they threw him down a flight of stairs, writing him off TV for months. In reality, Allin was using his time away from AEW to climb Mount Everest, a feat that saw him plant the AEW flag on the world’s highest peak.

Allin made his shock return at All In Texas to help Hangman Adam Page capture the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley, and he has been a thorn in the side of the Death Riders ever since.

PAC returned to AEW to help Moxley defeat Allin in a coffin match at All Out, but Allin was still not done. Instead, he fought fire with literal fire, setting Moxley alight and keeping the Death Riders at bay with a flamethrower and a Molotov cocktail in the following weeks.

Jon Moxley & Darby Allin Almost Run Out Of Time

At WrestleDream, the Death Rider played their part in trying to force Allin to say “I Quit” in his main event with Jon Moxley. However, despite Moxley trying to drown Allin, he would not give in. Sting made his shock return to save Allin and help turn things around, with Moxley eventually giving up while locked in the Scorpion Deathlock.

The end of the match came all of a sudden to some fans with Allin’s celebrations with the AEW flag he planted on Mount Everest cut short as the show went off the air. According to Bryan Alvarez, speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, that was because AEW were legitimately out of time:

The real-life reason was that they were completely out of time. The moment he gave up and Darby ran up and started celebrating with the flag in the corner, it was off the air. So it was a timing issue.

It should be noted that AEW fans missed no action at the end of the show, and it was only Allin’s celebrations that were cut short.
