What TNA Really Wanted AJ Styles To Do On Shock Return

AJ Styles Promo

AJ Styles is heading back to TNA, but his former promotion aren’t getting exactly what they wanted out of the WWE star.

TNA is heading to its new home on AMC on January 15th, and heaven and earth are being moved to make sure that the show is a success.

That show will see Frankie Kazarian defend the TNA World Championship against Mike Santana. Leon Slater will put his X Division Title on the line against Myron Reed, The IInspiration will defend the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Title against The Elegance Brand, and The Hardys will team with Elijah to take on Order 4.

AJ Styles will also make a special appearance on the show where he made his name, as will celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

TNA Wanted AJ Styles For Major Match

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that TNA’s choice of celebrity involvement was a strange one and revealed what TNA had initially hoped for with AJ Styles’ appearance:

The celebrities are supposed to help sell tickets. That is a weird one. AJ Styles should help, but he was announced several days ago, and they’ve not sold a ton of tickets; they’ve moved some. I know they wanted Frankie Kazarian and AJ Styles, but this is what they got. It’s possible that they shoot an angle and do it later.

TNA Genesis takes place on January 17th, and as of yet, no official world title match has been made. So there is still every chance that AJ Styles clashes with Kazarian in some fashion.
