What Next For Josh Alexander?

Josh Alexander IMPACT World Champion

Former TNA World Champion Josh Alexander’s time in the company looks to be coming to an end.

After asking TNA not to exercise an option year in 2024, the company kept hold of him but in February 2025, the Canadian star will finally be a free agent and the speculation is swirling around where he’ll end up.

What’s next for the star is currently unknown but if you’re following the situation you might want to check out a signup bonus at a top online sports book and have a gamble to make things just that little bit more interesting.

So what are Josh Alexander’s options?

TNA

While he’s hurtling towards free agency, it doesn’t mean Josh Alexander will end up in a different promotion. Alexander has stated that he can’t say he wants to leave TNA but thinks he’d be doing himself a disservice by not seeing what offers are on the table as he has never hit free agency since originally signing with TNA.

With AEW and WWE facing up to new media rights deals their pockets look to be a lot deeper than TNA’s although TNA has signed up a former WWE star in recent weeks. But having won all the company’s titles he can win, he might be open to a new adventure.

AEW

It seems there has not been a free agent that AEW hasn’t gone after during its five years in existence. Alexander’s credentials would make him a hit with hardcore fans and a deal with Tony Khan’s promotion could see a whole host of first-time-ever matches.

AEW could be waiting until their new TV deal is finalised to find out what budget they’ll be working with and they have spent heavily throughout 2024 with Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Moné signing up. AEW also loosened the purse strings substantially to offer former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland a new deal that has caused shockwaves throughout the wrestling world. Whether that leaves anything in reserve to have a pop at snapping up the Walking Weapon remains to be seen.

WWE

At this point, WWE might be the most obvious destination for Josh Alexander. WWE and TNA are currently working in partnership with Alexander’s recent Victory Road opponent Joe Hendry making waves in NXT.

NXT would be the likely starting point for Alexander should he sign up with Triple H as his almost two decades of experience could help the younger stars on the roster. He’d also be in line for a reunion with his former tag team partner in The North and current NXT Champion Ethan Page.

With a few months left to run on his TNA deal, there might be no news until February 2025 when he hits free agency but the speculation is sure to continue to build over what the future holds for Josh Alexander.
