What Happened When WWE Brought Back The Dreaded Blindfold Match

WWE blindfold match

Not many WWE fans were looking forward to the return of the blindfold match, but what really happened when two NXT stars did battle in the dark?

WWE is a company packed full of popular gimmick matches, with Hell In A Cell, TLC, Money In The Bank, and the Royal Rumble all regularly featured annually. One match type not seen very often in the company, although it has roots all the way back in the wrestling business, is the blindfold match.

Two competitors wrestle against each other while both wearing hoods to ensure they can’t see. This spectacle often makes for slow, tentative matches as wrestlers take their time seemingly trying to find their footing and avoid their opponent gaining a significant advantage.

The most famous blindfold match in WWE history took place when Jake Roberts battled Rick Martel at WrestleMania 7. Roberts picked up the win in that bout, but what happened when two NXT stars had to do battle without the use of sight?

Lexis King Cheats In WWE Blindfold Match

On the August 26th edition of NXT, that was the fate that befell Lexis King and Myles Osborne after the ignorant King made jokes at Osbourne’s expense about his partial deafness and then claimed he couldn’t see either.

Lexis King was reluctant to put on the hood, but once he had it on, he took a tumble on the outside of the ring and fell over the ring steps. Borne eventually got his hands on King, and with the two men locked in the corner, the referee stepped in to separate them. Lexis King then poked the official in the eye and took the opportunity to take his hood off and hit Borne with a low blow and his Coronation finisher to win the bout.
