What Happened When Santino Marella Challenged For WWE Gold

Santino Marella is back in WWE, and the TNA Director of Authority had his sights firmly set on winning championship gold once again.

Santino Marella was forced to get tough recently as one controversial TNA star was suspended indefinitely after they attacked a member of the company’s broadcast team at Slammiversary.

On the July 22nd edition of NXT, NXT North American Champion Ethan Page revelled in his success as he unveiled a brand new title belt. Tossing aside the belt that was first introduced in 2018, Page revealed a new belt complete with a Canadian flag leather strap as he paid tribute to his home country.

However, Page soon had company as the former WWE Intercontinental Champion made his presence felt with Santino Marella challenging Page to an NXT North American Title match on the July 29th edition of NXT.

Santino Marella Can’t Overcome Ethan Page

In his first singles match in WWE in over 11 years, Marella held his own against Page and gave the NXT North American Champion some real concern. Marella broke out his deadly Cobra, but Page used the match official as a shield. As Page pushed the referee away, he poked the eye of Marella, giving himself the chance to hit the Twisted Grin and retain his championship.
