What Are WWE’s Long-Term Plans For AAA?

WWE’s plans for AAA are becoming clearer.

From the moment that it was announced that WWE had acquired AAA during WrestleMania weekend, fans have been speculating over how WWE would use the Mexican promotion.

As the months have passed, the sports entertainment giant has had a growing footprint at AAA events, and it seems that’s just the beginning.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that AAA will now become part of a feeder system for NXT.

“The idea is to align AAA style closer to WWE style, and the idea is to use AAA as the Mexican feeder system for NXT, similar to the idea they had for NXT U.K. Essentially, this becomes NXT Mexico.”

In theory, this would enable AAA stars to get familiar with the WWE style, instead of having to be taught it after being placed in NXT. To make this possible, “Mexican coaches will be brought to Orlando to learn WWE methodology.”

Meltzer also reported that El Grande Americano could become a “major player” in the promotion, following a change to the character. It was claimed that this would see Americano drop the comedic persona currently used in WWE.

The character is currently being played by Ludwig Kaiser after Chad Gable underwent surgery.

A different report also claimed that WWE is looking to make Dominik Mysterio the AAA Mega Champion. According to the report, plans to make the switch are being “strongly considered,” and as a result, Mysterio could become the face of the promotion.
