Vince McMahon & WWE File To Block Janel Grant’s Bid To Obtain New Evidence

Vince McMahon

The legal fight between Vince McMahon, WWE, and Janel Grant continues.

On June 24, it was revealed that Janel Grant filed to gain access to internal WWE communications, including emails between Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon.

The aim on Grant’s side is to ultimately challenge Vince McMahon’s desire to move the sex trafficking lawsuit to private arbitration. In the original NDA between McMahon and Grant, there was a clause that stated that any issues would be resolved privately and not in public court.

Grant claims that the clause isn’t enforceable, and alleges that she was under “an extreme state of duress and coercion” by McMahon at the time.

The original lawsuit filed by Grant in January 2024 alleged that she was sexually abused and sex trafficked by McMahon while she was employed by WWE. The suit contends that WWE enabled and concealed McMahon’s actions.

Vince McMahon And WWE Oppose Janel Grant Motion

As reported by Brandon Thurston, new filings submitted late on June 30 reveal that McMahon and WWE oppose Grant’s filing relating to gathering more evidence. They argue that Grant has “failed to meet the legal standard for pre-arbitration discovery,” while accusing her of seeking access to documents unrelated to claims she was coerced into agreeing to arbitration.

McMahon’s legal team described Grant’s filing as an “improper fishing expedition.”

Meanwhile, WWE’s legal team was also forceful in its opposition to Grant’s latest action. It was argued that Grant’s filing was a way of getting around the court’s earlier decision to delay broader discovery while arguments over arbitration continue.

“Grant is not entitled to motion-related discovery. She has entirely failed to allege sufficient facts calling into question the validity of the arbitration provision…

Grant’s document requests are a transparent attempt to circumvent the Court’s stay order,”

WWE added that Grant hadn’t presented any allegations or “reliable evidence” showing that she was coerced. Meanwhile, McMahon’s team said that if Grant was coerced, the evidence she’s seeking would already be in her possession.
