Vince McMahon Had Surprising Reason For Not Saying “Hospital” On WWE TV

Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon had a very specific reason for not wanting WWE commentators to use the word ‘hospital’ on television.

For decades, fans have seen Superstars carried from arenas on stretchers, with the commentary team announcing to viewers at home later in the show that the injured competitor had been transferred to a ‘local medical facility’.

Former WWE Chairman McMahon became well known for a number of broadcast quirks during his tenure, including barring the use of the word ‘belts’ and ‘blood’ on WWE programming. ‘The Genetic Jackhammer’ has also earnt a reputation for scolding his announcers for not following his demands on air.

The reason for McMahon’s reluctance to use the word ‘hospital’ on WWE television has finally been revealed by former WWE Champion, John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield.

Speaking during a recent edition of popular podcast ‘Something To Wrestle’, JBL explained that McMahon did not want local hospitals receiving phone calls from fans for updates on injured Superstars:

“I never understood that. Vince wanted to keep things on a more cerebral level. I think that was the reason for the medical center.

Plus, he didn’t want people to call the hospital. He didn’t want people to say ‘He’s at the Baltimore Hospital,’ because ]they] would call the hospital. If you say, ‘He’s at a local medical center,’ you have no idea where he went. You have the plausible deniability.”

Vince McMahon Lawsuit Rolls On

It was back on 25th January 2024 that revelations became public of a lawsuit alleging Vince McMahon’s involvement in sex trafficking and sexual assault. The allegations, filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant, also implicated former WWE Executive John Laurinaitis and were immediately refuted by McMahon.

Despite denying all accusations, McMahon resigned as Executive Chairman of TKO Group on 26th January 2024, bringing to an end the 79 year-old’s day to day control over WWE.

The lawsuit continues to roll on almost a year later, with lawyers for Janel Grant recently filing amendments to the suit.
