Vince McMahon Isn’t Buying WWE Back

Vince McMahon

Recent suggestions that Vince McMahon could try and make an audacious move to buy back WWE look to have come to a complete halt.

A former WWE employee suggested Vince McMahon wanted to buy back his former company, which set the rumour mill into overdrive. Endeavor completed its WWE takeover in September 2023, and since then, Vince McMahon was forced to resign as TKO Executive Chairman after a lawsuit was filed accusing him of serious sexual assault.

Endeavor, which is now a privately held company known as WME Group following a takeover by Silver Lake, has purchased 1.579 million shares of TKO Class A common stock from Vince McMahon for $158.32 per share. The deal that was finalised on June 4th has netted McMahon around $250 million. This means since his removal, McMahon has sold over $2 billion worth of TKO shares. The deal also means that Endeavor now owns 61.8% of outstanding TKO stock.

So, as far as McMahon ever trying to buy back the company, that idea now looks to be completely dead.

Vince McMahon Simply Can’t Buy WWE

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why this latest stock sale puts the final nail in the coffin of any thoughts of him trying to buy back WWE:

He sold about $250 million worth of stock back to Silver Lake and Endeavor, so they’re basically interested in buying back stock which pretty much tells you – I mean, you heard the rumours about the idea that Vince would try and buy back the company, which was ludicrous.

The very next day he sells more stock so he can’t buy back the company, Lorenzo [Fertitta, former UFC owner] can’t buy back [UFC]. Lorenzo Fertitta would love to buy back UFC, it’s impossible; he cannot do it and his family has more money than Vince has. Vince isn’t buying back this company, it just can’t happen, Endeavor aren’t selling, they’re buying. They’re looking at more control of the company.

Vince McMahon recently launched a brand new company, suggesting that even if he did want to buy WWE back from Endeavor’s control at one point, he has now moved on.
