Why Vince McMahon Purposely Ignored Jailed WWE Star’s Calls
On the exterior, Vince McMahon appeared as a dominant boss who did not tolerate shenanigans.
But he had a different side, too. Who can forget his prank on Mark Henry, which saw The World’s Strongest Man walk out for a match in front of a live crowd and stand awkwardly in the ring when there was no opponent?
Or when McMahon poked holes in the Big Show’s blowup mattress while traveling on a plane, causing the latter to rage.
One such incident in 1997 involved Vader.
It occurred in Kuwait when Vader and The Undertaker appeared on Good Morning Kuwait, a local television program, to promote wrestling.
The interviewer at the time asked them about wrestling being fake, which made Vader angry, who grabbed the host by the tie, asking him if his actions felt fake. This led to Vader being arrested by the local police and detained for a couple of weeks.
It was later revealed that the whole incident was a work; only the interviewer was not informed about it, as he decided to file charges against Vader.
Vince McMahon Refused To Take Vader’s Calls
Vince McMahon and WWE were made aware of Vader’s detention in Kuwait.
Speaking about the incident on a recent The Coach & Bro podcast, Vince Russo revealed how McMahon refused to take calls from Vader as a rib.
They were overseas, I think it was Kuwait, and Vader was on a talk show, and Vader stayed in character and wind up, cinching the host of the show and threatening with him. Bro, they didn’t know, like, it was a work. They arrested Vader and put him in a Kuwait jail.
Coach, I am at Vince’s house with Vince and Bruce (Prichard). Vader’s in a Kuwait jail, scared out of his mind. Coach, they’re not taking his call. They went an entire day without taking his calls as a rib. [54:59 onwards]
