Vince McMahon Hits Back, Lawsuit To Access “Intimate Communications”
Vince McMahon’s legal battles continue.
In November 2023, a new lawsuit was filed, which claimed Vince McMahon manipulated the sale process during WWE’s merger with UFC, which saw the creation of the TKO Group.
That January, McMahon had forced his way back onto the WWE Board of Directors, having previously “retired” in the wake of a sexual misconduct scandal. After his return was initially blocked, McMahon removed board members to make his return official.
At the time, it was suggested McMahon had returned to help in the sale of the company, and a deal with Endeavor was subsequently completed.
The lawsuit alleges that McMahon acted against the best interests of other shareholders in order to protect his own power by pursuing the deal with Endeavor. Furthermore, it’s claimed he did so in order to protect himself against allegations of sexual misconduct.
WWE’s investigation into Vince McMahon has been branded a “sham,” which was used to “facilitate a cover-up.”
Vince McMahon Pushing Back
As the legal battle continues, a report from Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics has cited Delaware court documents showing McMahon is pushing back against revealing more information. The disgraced former WWE boss has called on the Delaware Court of Chancery to deny the plaintiff’s motion for him to hand over more discovery.
McMahon is arguing that the request is overreaching and that the plaintiffs are simply trying to get into his personal life. He added that his accusers are looking to access “deeply personal and intimate communications” with women he had relationships with, and messages discussing those relationships with other family members.
McMahon feels those documents are irrelevant to the case, which his team has previously described as “meritless.” His team argued that revealing the documents would bring a legal matter into the situation that had been addressed in a different lawsuit. His attorney stated:
“If this Court grants Plaintiffs’ Motion, this case will devolve into a mini-trial over the Sexual Misconduct Allegations.”
On May 7, 2025, Judge Sarah F. Russell accepted Janel Grant’s updated lawsuit against WWE, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinaitis. McMahon and the other defendants continue to push to move the case to arbitration. The suit, which was originally filed in January 2024, centres around allegations of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
Meanwhile, McMahon has also been named as a defendant in a lawsuit relating to the “ring boys” scandal in the 1990s. The suit claims that ring crew chief, Melvin Phillips Jr, “groomed, exploited, and sexually abused” several young boys and alleges that McMahon and others were “fully aware” of the abuses.
