Vince McMahon Allegations Force AEW To Abandon Huge News

Vince McMahon WWE

AEW could be on the verge of announcing a huge signing after their original plans were halted by the shocking news surrounding Vince McMahon.

Vince McMahon is facing claims of sexual assault and sex trafficking as part of a horrifying lawsuit that has dominated the headlines in recent days. Already Vince McMahon has resigned as Executive Chairman of TKO but has vowed to fight to clear his name.

With the sickening allegations against McMahon dominating the news agenda, AEW was forced into a pivot regarding some good news of their own.

AEW Pause Mercedes Mone Announcement Because Of Vince McMahon

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that AEW was going to announce the signing of Mercedes Mone on the 27th of January edition of Collision but held off due to the shocking allegations made against Vince McMahon:

AEW has thought they’ve had Mercedes for a while. They were originally gonna make the announcement on Saturday and then they realised that was probably not the best day to make the announcement because with the Vince [McMahon] stuff, it’s like no one’s going to be talking about this.

So it’s better to do the announcement when people will be talking about the announcement rather than it get lost in the sleaziness of the Vince McMahon story that’s everywhere.

Tony Khan has teased a big announcement for Dynamite on the 7th of February so there is a chance that Mercedes Mone could be revealed then.

Prior to AEW revealing the signing of CM Punk in 2021, Khan announced a huge show in Chicago that gave enough of a hint to everyone that Punk was returning. Should Khan stop short of revealing Mone as All Elite but announce a show in her hometown of Boston instead, that might be enough of a signal that the star is joining AEW.
