Why Vince McMahon Hasn’t Been Featured On “Dark Side Of The Ring”

Vince McMahon won’t be featuring on Dark Side of the Ring anytime soon.

For many, a Dark Side of the Ring episode diving into the career of former WWE boss Vince McMahon seems inevitable.

Even while in charge of WWE, McMahon was seen as a bizarre and polarising figure, but his reputation has taken a further hit in recent years. In January 2024, McMahon was named in a lawsuit by former employee Janel Grant who claimed he sexually abused and trafficked her while she worked for the sports entertainment giant.

Vince McMahon has also been named in a new “ring boy” lawsuit which claims that those highlighted were complicit in the sexual exploitation of children by former ring announcer and ring crew chief Melvin Phillips Jr.

However, according to a key figure behind the series, things aren’t quite that simple.

Vince McMahon Episode Will Wait

In a new interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Riju Dasgupta, Dark Side of the Ring producer Evan Husney explained why there’s yet to be an episode on McMahon. He explained that telling the story around McMahon with the lawsuits still unfolding would be difficult.

“Honestly, my thought about it has always been, with any of these stories, is they’re not done being told yet. They’re still unfolding. We are in the midst of that story and we’re not sure where it’s gonna go from here, right? I mean, every few weeks, every few months there’s something new about the lawsuit and what’s happening with that.”

Husney added that establishing facts for the basis of an episode would also be difficult as people may not want to talk and information might not be available given the legal proceedings are ongoing.

“So, from the point of view of just a storyteller, whether it’s a story we would cover or not, if you committed to doing that story right now, you may get nothing. You might not get any answers.

You might not be able to tell anything because people are unable to talk or the information isn’t there, and you might just get something very loose, and that could be perceived as exploiting or cashing in on what’s happening now, so I sort of feel like those stories aren’t done being told and we have to kinda be patient and see.”

Season six of Dark Side of the Ring kicked off on March 25 looking at the Hell in a Cell match between Mick Foley and The Undertaker. Other subjects set to be covered include The Original Sheik, Superstar Billy Graham, and Vader.
