Vince McMahon Turned Down Major Hulk Hogan WWE Heel Turn

Hulk Hogan has recalled the time when he pitched a heel turn to Vince McMahon, but the former WWE Chairman said no.

The working relationship between WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan and former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was one of the major topics covered in the Netflix documentary “Mr. McMahon” which covered Vince’s life and career.

During the WWE’s rise in the 1980s, Hulk Hogan was in the main event picture as the WWE Champion who headlined eight of the first nine WrestleMania events before leaving the company.

At WrestleMania 6 in 1990 in Toronto’s Skydome, Hulk Hogan lost the WWE Championship to the Ultimate Warrior, who was arguably more popular than Hogan at the time of the match. After the match, Hogan gave the WWE Title to Warrior and left the ring so that Warrior could celebrate.

In a recent interview with Barstool Rasslin, the Hulkster claimed that he wanted to turn heel after losing to Warrior, but the WWE boss man Vince McMahon turned down that idea.

“When I did the job for The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 6, one of the things I said to Vince McMahon was, ‘Let me turn heel.’”

“If you watch the tape, everybody in the crowd was watching me leave. Slowly, I [could have] turned and [came] back and just ground him.”

Hulk Hogan Recalls How Heel Turn With NWO Took Place

Six years later when Hogan was working for WCW, he turned heel at Bash at the Beach 1996 to become the leader of the New World Order group with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. Hogan told Barstool Rasslin that when he saw how hot Nash & Hall were after their WCW debut, Hogan knew he was the perfect guy to join them since he was a former WWE guy just like they were.

“I called Eric (Bischoff) up [and] I said, ‘Man, I’m your guy.’ He said, ‘Well, do you really want to do it, because we were going to put Sting [in]?’ And I said, ‘Sting’s a great guy, but he’s not WWF head-to-toe.’”

While Hulk Hogan’s storytelling can be questionable at times, this time it appears to be true since Eric Bischoff has said in the past that Sting was going to be the third man in the NWO if Hogan didn’t agree to it.
