Vince McMahon Documentary “An Absolute Double Shovel Burial”

Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon reportedly doesn’t get an easy ride in a new documentary.

On August 5th, Netflix released the first trailer for the upcoming documentary “Mr. McMahon” on the disgraced former WWE boss. The clip drew a mixed reaction from fans, with some feeling it showed that the documentary wouldn’t do enough to tackle the allegations of sexual abuse hanging over McMahon.

However, according to podcaster Conrad Thompson that’s far from the case.

During an appearance on Keepin It 100, Thompson said he’s heard the documentary is a “burial” of McMahon, adding that some in WWE are unhappy about it. Konnan said this was in large part down to producer Bill Simmons who “does what he wants.”

Thompson then reiterated that McMahon isn’t shown in a flattering light.

“[Simmons] is talking to [David] Shoemaker and [Dave] Meltzer. It’s an absolute double shovel burial.”

After discussing having to try and separate the artist from the real person in relation to Chris Benoit, Thompson gave his thoughts on McMahon.

“If you read the original report, certainly it was slanted to read a certain way. Either way, it’s hard to read that and not be a little taken aback. Now it’s like okay, not everybody is all good or all bad. He created some real magic for millions of people, myself included.

But he wasn’t always a great guy. I think if you go back and look up almost any of our heroes, whether they’re in entertainment, music or whatever, those folks disappoint you. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up enjoying their previous work.”

During the exchange, Disco Inferno said he can’t pile on figures such as McMahon or Hulk Hogan “regardless of the bad things they’ve done.”

Backstage Reaction To Vince McMahon Allegations

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted he’s aware of talent who are “repulsed” by the allegations against McMahon, and others who are “not so,” furthermore, some have stayed quiet out of uncertainty about the reaction from management.

In January 2024, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE centred around allegations of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
