Vince McMahon Cared More About Wrestlers Than Triple H Says Ex-WWE Star
A former WWE Superstar has spoken up about how much Vince McMahon cared about talent.
Despite bringing in record revenue, WWE has continued its ruthless approach to talent releases under the TKO Group. Whether this is releasing talents from their contracts or not renewing deals when they come up, the company has shown that if a star isn’t on television, and in some cases even if they are, their job may hang in the balance.
This approach was recently brought back into the news after R-Truth revealed that he would be leaving WWE when his contract expires. This is despite his lengthy tenure, recent high-profile match with John Cena, and the fact that he’s universally beloved by fans and fellow wrestlers.
According to one former Superstar, this is proof that loyalty no longer matters as it did when Vince McMahon was running the company.
Ex-WWE Star Says Vince McMahon Was Loyal To Talent
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Bishop Dyer, the former Baron Corbin, suggested there’s been a big shift within WWE with regard to how talent is treated. The star claimed that under Vince McMahon, there was more of an emphasis on loyalty, something that’s now been lost.
Dyer compared the company to an NFL team, where he believes it’s all about money on the balance sheet rather than the individuals involved.
“Say what you want about Vince, Vince cared about his talent and he cared about the fans. Everything else in his life is his business and whatever he’s dealing with.
Guys like Taker, someone who’s been loyal. When you watch Vince talk about Taker, he starts crying because he loves him and his loyalty. R-Truth has been nothing but loyal, he’s done everything that’s ever been asked. He’s gotten everything to work, even some sh*t that’s really questionable over the years, he’s made very entertaining.
I think if you’re sitting in that locker room, you have to realize, ‘Oh sh*t, if I’m not on TV for a month, it could be me next.’
I think for the locker room, they’re gonna come to a harsh realization that loyalty no longer matters. I think that it has become what the NFL a little bit is, a paper league, in my opinion, where it’s no longer about the person, it’s about what’s on paper.”
On May 30, it was reported that Vince McMahon is in the early stages of launching his first post-WWE business venture. The company, named 14TH & I, is a “private investment firm focused on the sports, media, & entertainment sectors.”
There’s no indication that McMahon’s new project will involve professional wrestling, but its name is a reference to the location of the former Capitol Wrestling Corporation offices in Washington, D.C., in the 1950s and ’60s.
The company, which was owned by McMahon’s father, would eventually become WWE.
