Vic Joseph Gives Insight Into Corey Graves Controversy
Vic Joseph is excited to be working with Corey Graves.
Although he’s been with the company for more than a decade, in January, the relationship between Corey Graves and WWE hit an all-time low.
In a series of posts on social media, Graves publicly called out WWE for dropping him from SmackDown before teasing he had a “lot to say” when he returned to NXT. However, he didn’t appear at the taping, and some fans wondered whether he would return at all.
Despite the apparently fractured relationship, Graves later returned to television in NXT, and all seems to have been forgiven.
Corey Graves Needed To “Take A Breath”
During an interview on the Getting Over podcast, Graves’ long-time friend and broadcast partner, Vic Joseph, gave his thoughts on the situation. Joseph said it was important for Graves to take stock, and after something of a heart-to-heart, he was reminded that he was doing all he ever wanted.
“I think he needed to have a new set of eyes, take a deep breath. Something we’ve always talked about, we used to travel in the car together, was, ‘Hey man, it’d be cool to call the shows together one day’. And I think once he and I had the talk, like, ‘Dude, this is what we’ve always talked about’, he was like, ‘Yeah, you’re right’.
I always wear a bow tie every WrestleMania – Corey Graves gave me that as a gift at my very first WrestleMania. So we have that personal connection.
But I think the difficulty for Corey, and I think this is where you start to see that seamless transition, is now he doesn’t have to do as much.
Now he can take a deep breath, he can take a step back, and understand that it is three of us. Three unique individuals. Three distinct personalities. For one goal, for one show. And so it’s been getting better each and every week, and it’s only gonna get better.
All three of us are just stoked to be in New York on Tuesday, Theater at Madison Square Garden, it’s a great card, it’s a great opportunity. And it’s a chance for not only the brand but us as a broadcast team to take that next step together, and start looking at our first WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas.”
Details of the spat between Graves and WWE have been hard to come by, with Michael Cole calling it a “strange situation.”
